BrandPost: Elvis Has Left the Building. Why Some Are Exiting the Public Cloud
By Gary Thome, VP and Chief Engineer, HPE Software-Defined and Cloud Group
«Ladies and gentlemen, Elvis has left the building. Thank you and goodnight.»
First used to encourage people to leave Elvis Presley concerts after all encores concluded, this popular idiom is often used when something has come to an end — often in a dramatic way. When I first started hearing about companies that were born in the public cloud and were now leaving, this phrase came to mind. I wondered how prevalent this migration was becoming.
According to an article in Forbes published last year, a study conducted by 451 Research found that 20% of cloud users had moved at least one or more of their workloads from the public cloud to a private cloud. They even have a name for this migration – cloud repatriation.
